First semester of school update...
Finals are today and, surprisingly, I'm not stressed.
After busting my ass, its finally over and I have a few weeks
to recuperate before going back in January.

I've discovered that I am really interested in psychology.
Does that mean I'll be giving up my choice of nursing for
a career change?
No, but it is a subject that I many pursue further one day.

Before going on with my post, I would like to be clear about a few things.
I am not a socialist. The money I take home should be spend as I see fit.
On the flip side of that though, I am willing to pay higher taxes so that
everyone (hoodrats, trailer trash, and homeless bums too) has the opportunity
to receive health care.
Take care of the physical body and the mind will prosper.
I believe in more spending assistance for higher education. Educating our
populous can only better our nation.

that would be me.
ive been pretty pissed off and frustrated in general lately and its because i lost focus.
i didnt understand that it was my own fault.

now i realize (again!) that my happiness is my responsibility and i shouldnt rely on anyone else to make it possible.
this is the same shit that i have to keep retraining myself with over and over and over.
and i cant believe after the last time this happened that i let myself slide again.

honestly, im waiting on parrot to yell at me and tell me not to be a big fat dummy head.

I've been losing sleep lately.
I wish I could say that it was for a good reason, but unfortunately it's because of family drama.
It has quite literally been at least 5+years since I have been stressed out and frustrated because of my family. In the past, if they hurt or upset me, I've shut them out of my life.
Can't really do that right at the moment as I am living under their roof.

My step-mother is going out of her way to try to aggravate and interfere in my and Nic's life.
He and I are in an adjustment period after spending time apart which is hard enough without petty bullshit.
I will spare you the boring and inane details.

Needless to say, we will be moving out as soon as we can.

In the interim, I cannot do the things that tend to help me relax and let off steam.
Rain in Florida. huh. whodda thought.

While I'm sure these past few years will have been very crucial to making me the
current person that I am today, this month is big for me.

School begins 8/25

I am not making plans for beyond my education time-table right now.
That includes questions about where I plan to live afterwards, my love life, and what my new favorite food will be.

I pick Nic up from the airport on Wednesday morning at 9:30.
Lucky boy has to be at the airport at 4am or something stupid I bet.

Maybe "romance" isn't a bad idea.

Couples who engage in "romantic" activities (musical serenades, flowers, candles, picnics on the beach, etc) tend to have longer lasting and closer relationships according to some studies.

I've tended to be of the belief that romance is for dorks. Maybe that's because I don't like blushing because it embarrasses me. Yes, I've put on a cheesy grin with matching googily eyes for a single rose, but it was pretty unexpected.
I think I could have been flattered in the past by flowers on the counter and candles in the bedroom. Honestly, I think I[/we] chose the easier path of laziness and a quickie to show affection. Probably a bad idea in hindsight.

I used to think I was too cynical to appreciate small gestures like simple statements of endearment. Time and age have worn me down because at 25 the sweetest thing to my ear is "I miss you."

I expect that I'm going to be around a good deal longer and that the "sappy factor" will only become more skewed. I'm predicting that in 10 years someone will serenade me and I will swoon and faint. Knowing me, I will crack my head open.
How quaint.

Really though... I think I may have lost my edge.

i got a scooter that doesn't work and will be taking it to a shop soon.

last night i had a long talk to someone that was very dear to me at one point in my life.
i am referring to my ex-husband adam.
to say that i was nervous about saying something that could offend him is an understatement.
considering how badly id hurt him before, i felt like i should shield him from my current life.

he doesnt hate me.
i am apparently forgiven.
maybe even thanked in a perverse kind of way.

he recognizes how stagnant we had become and believes that the end of our relationship was inevitable.
life has been good to him since i left.
he started exercising and lost a lot of weight.
got progressively better jobs.
dated.

he asked me about my travels and my life.
we talked about my intention to go to school in the fall.
we even talked about music.

it was like catching up with somebody from highschool.

last week i went to columbus, ga with my sister, michelle.
we were *supposed* to pick up her mother who had been visiting and drive back to orlando.
no such luck.

ended up staying 5 days in a city full of douche bags.
not wanting to converse with the locals, we found other uses for our time out.
most of it was legal.

i hate columbus

im pretty sure these people dont live in columbus. but i could be wrong.

on the other hand, i got to go to the park where i was in little league.
i ate a chicken finger basket and watched a game.
that was pretty nice.
not that im planning on it, but if a kid comes up in my future, they will play on a little league team.

I am learning what it means to be "self contained (thank you Parr)" and not to have my sense of self dependent on another person.

I like getting up early in the morning, grabbing a cup of coffee and reading on the back porch for a couple of hours.
I like alt-folk music more than any other type of music. I find the lyrics are more thoughtful than any other genre without having the "I'm on my period" aspect of most female vocalists.
I look forward to school.
I look forward to traveling after school. Within the US, I want to go to New Orleans so far. I'd imagine that comes from my reading Anne Rice recently. Oh, and back to Atlanta. Outside the states, I want to go to the same places I've always wanted to go to; India, Thailand, New Zealand, [insert more central asian countries here].
I enjoy working outside on my garden. It is probably one of the most rewarding things I've done in a looong time.
I am learning guitar. Who can play Ode to Joy? Me. Totally me.
Books, books, and um... more books.

Also, this is the first time since I was 17, that I have not had a job. It freaked me out really bad at first, but I'm just enjoying it now.

I am glad that we can talk without me feeling desperate for conversation.
I'm missing something, but I may never actually want it again.
That's life I guess.
